The book is based on a proprietary study of interviews with 1,000 professionals around the country. Speaking to web-savvy readers, Radical Careering functions more like a website than a traditional book, using a non-linear format and online tools.
According to Lee Ann Daly, Executive VP of Marketing at ESPN, “Hogshead’s powerful strategies will teach you how to drive your own success, by having the fearlessness, daily courage, and curiosity to jump in the deep end and swim with real purpose.”

- Juliet D'Ambrosio: Interviewing & Storytelling
- Read description »
-
Description:
Before we can communicate a compelling story about a client— whether it’s a corporation or product or band or place—designers must first uncover the story worth telling. Even a pure visual solution like a logo deserves a deep understanding of the culture, structure, operation and soul of the subject. This hands-on, demonstration-based workshop is designed to teach the tools needed to gather and tell meaningful stories, and to creatively communicate those stories in both written and visual ways. We’ll look to the disciplines of anthropology and journalism for the best interviewing and culture-observing techniques; we’ll practice both one-on-one and group interviews designed to stimulate storytelling; and we’ll engage in a variety of exercises that can help transform the stories you gather into powerful creative solutions.

Daily Monster started as a 100-day project to promote his book, Upstairs Neighbors. Every day, Bucher posted videos of himself creating monsters derived from random inkblots. The project captured the imagination of readers, who dreamt up names, jobs, and personalities to Bucher’s critters.
After the 100 days, Bucher kept the monster experience going by turning Daily Monster into an interactive project.

Description:
“We were just coming around that last dramatic curve, with the Yosemite Valley stretching out for miles in front of us, and, all of a sudden, the RV’s front tire exploded. I had to ride my daughter’s Princess Arial bicycle three miles down the mountain for help.”
We humans perceive and communicate most things in life as story. The good news for those of us who create stories for a living—designers, filmmakers, architects, writers, musicians, educators, photographers—is that our audience is already hard-wired to think in this way. Our job is to keep the stories interesting.
